Predicting Academic Success of Masters Students Using Application Data with Karen Shen
This project explores the most important factors in predicting the academic success of students in the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Sciences Masters Program from their initial application data. Through machine learning models, we find that the Random Forest model performs very well in predicting which students will struggle to graduate and which students will succeed at Penn. Furthermore, the models show that GPA is one of the most important factors in predicting academic success and is even more important than school selectiveness. Finally, this presentation provides recommendations for admissions staff to make applications more useful for data analysis in the future.
