Now Hiring: Postdoctoral Fellowship with Wharton ESG Analytics Lab

The Wharton ESG Analytics Lab invites applications for a one-year Postdoctoral Fellowship which will be renewable for a second year. The successful applicant will work closely with a team of researchers to examine how the various forms of activism by investors influences targeted firms to improve their practices and outcomes with respect to climate change and other ESG issues. This research will involve assembling and analyzing datasets relating to shareholder activism, measures of climate impacts and ESG performance, textual disclosures by corporates, and media sentiment, in addition to writing reports and preparing materials for journal submissions. Data will be sourced from secondary sources available to the ESG Analytics Lab as well as from organizations implementing a large-scale international campaign during the 2022 (and 2023) AGM seasons who have agreed to share proprietary internal data with us for research purposes. Familiarity with existing governance research as well as text analysis skills will be seen as an advantage.

Location: Philadelphia, PA – USA
Starting date: July 1, 2022
Length: 1 year, renewable for a second year based on satisfactory performance evaluation

About the Wharton ESG Analytics Lab

The Wharton ESG Analytics Lab was established to conduct innovative research and to facilitate industry engagement activities that use data to improve decision making and generate actionable business insights on material ESG factors. Building on Wharton’s demonstrated expertise in analytics—including the widely-used WRDS platform—the ESG Analytics Lab brings together faculty and doctoral students whose research is at the frontier of ESG analysis. This expertise includes the assembly and management of a range of large-scale databases focused on ESG issues, using this data to produce high-quality academic research on ESG integration, and communicating this research to practitioners and other partners by showcasing best practices in the investment community.
